The culmination of many hours of work, this scene is meant to pay homage to Southern Pacific's all-weather service across our Sierra mountian range.
The locomotive leading the lashup was unique to Southern Pacific, its subsidiary SSW and sister road D&RGW, specially designed for use in the long snow sheds
common to the western ranges. I am very grateful to the curators of the
Espee Modelers Archive
for their tireless work and preservation of information that makes projects like this possible.
The locomotives were modeled in Autodesk Inventor, using data from
Trainiax and David Peck's excellent
Diesel data Series - Book 1.
The models were textured textured in Autodesk 3ds Max using imagery created in Autodesk AutoCAD and GIMP.
The snow and trees were created using
Polysnow Plus and 3ds Max AEC assets.
The excellent HDRI imagery used to create the sky and scene lighting was provided by
Greg Zaal via Polyhaven.
The tree stump and rock were created by
IceAspen and
gizem dilara tek, respectively.
Rendering was accomplished with Solidangle's
Arnold rendering engine at UHD image size, downscaled here for faster loading times.
