CNC - Computer Numerical Control
CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, which is a manufacturing process that uses computers to control machine tools. CNC machines use pre-programmed software called G-Code to automate the movement and precision of tools, such as drills, lathes, mills, grinders, and routers. The Machine Tool program at Napa Valley College has a 5-Axis CNC Machine.
I have been working with the faculty of the Machine Tool program using AutoDesk Fusion 360 to create a 3D Model of a Turners Cube and creating the tool paths and other operations that will control their 5-Axis Machine. After the 3D Modeling is completed and the tool paths have been generated, G-Code can be exported and further modified. The code can then be added to the machine and the part can be creatd from a standard block of metal.
The following videos are our recordings of our first project together, the Turners Cube. This is completely optional additional training for students who would like to know more about creating G-Code from their Fusion 360 designs.
