3 Piston Engine

This project was fairly easy to model. The most challenging aspect was the animation of the internal parts of the engine. This required a different approach compared to the machine vice. This project was dealing with motion patterns of parts that are more complex than single axis movements such as simple rotations or single axis sliding mechanisms. The animation required the incorporation of a rigging and linking system in order to link the parts at exactly the right points to one another. Bones consist of two points that create an axis along a part that can be recognized by the software as a link. Bones were created and rigged up to the connecting rod, and piston parts, enabling them to travel along a path which can be dictated by enabling or disabling the part’s ability to move along more than a single axis. Attaching the bones to the crank shaft enabled the assembly to function in unison. This project demonstrated to me the basics of what is required to create an animation using rigging and linking.
